Every year, my friends at Ace Weekly publish the Power Couple issue, spotlighting couples who are changing the face of Lexington. Two years ago, I published one of my all-time favorite pieces in the Power Couple issue. I went all People Magazine and coined a “couple name” for the pairing of our coach and our star point guard. “Wallipari” was born, and I even had the good fortune to be ridiculed in the Knoxville newspaper. (The Voice of the Vols laughed at me; my proudest moment as a writer.)
This week, I had another opportunity to profile a Power Couple for Ace, the husband and wife team who founded Lexington’s iconic Big Ass Fans. I had a great time writing about a couple that has contributed so positively to my town’s economy and community. Even if it won’t earn me scorn from the Volunteer Nation, it was a fun piece to write.
